Efficient bird protection for wind farms – technology and AI supporting the rapid deployment of wind energy
Balancing wind energy development with effective bird protection is becoming an increasingly important challenge for the wind industry, both during the permitting process and throughout the operational phase. Thanks to advanced monitoring technologies and AI, wind farm developers and operators can now minimise collision risks more effectively while supporting the development and operation of projects in areas with higher bird activity.
The presentation will introduce Bioseco Bird Protection System (BPS), one of the most widely deployed bird protection systems in Europe, and will focus on the latest developments in detection technology, AI-based risk assessment and species recognition.
Who should join?
The session is primarily aimed at wind farm developers, project owners and operators from Sweden and the wider Nordic region, as well as environmental and technical consultants interested in technologies supporting bird protection.

This session moves from national ambition to local implementation. Sweden’s ability to expand electricity production, grids and new industrial establishments depends on how national policy, municipal planning and regional development work together.
The discussion will focus on mandates, incentives and practical tools for municipalities and regions, including how local benefit, permitting and large electricity users can be handled without leaving responsibility between different levels of decision-making.
What needs to be decided at national level, and what should be left to the local level, to increase the pace of electrification? How can Sweden create predictable processes while still maintaining local engagement and influence?

As data centres, industry and other large electricity users grow rapidly, Sweden needs to understand how other countries are managing the same challenge. This session looks at international examples of responsibility sharing, additionality, self-production, co-location, backup capacity and system requirements, and what Sweden can learn before large new loads create new bottlenecks or increase fossil dependence.
Which international examples are most relevant for Sweden, and what mistakes should be avoided? How can rules and incentives ensure that new electricity demand also contributes to new production, flexibility or other system value?
Language: English
When new major electricity users, such as data centres with capacities of several hundred megawatts, seek to connect to the grid, grid operators face new requirements and trade-offs. Large loads can affect grid capacity, power balance and security of supply, while also creating new vulnerabilities in the electricity system.
What requirements should grid operators impose on new large load profiles to ensure that connections are technically sound and sustainable from a system perspective? Should large electricity users be expected to contribute their own electricity generation, flexibility, backup power or other system benefits? And what criteria should guide decisions when grid capacity is limited, and not all connection requests can be accommodated at the same time?
Language: Swedish
When electricity, capacity and grid access are limited, prioritisation becomes a political, economic and technical question. This session looks at the tension between industry, AI, households and other electricity users, and at the system requirements needed to connect new large loads without increasing vulnerability or crowding out other parts of the transition.
What principles should determine who gets access when capacity is limited? How can large new loads contribute through flexibility, backup power, batteries, heat recovery or other solutions that strengthen the wider system?
Language: Swedish
This session focuses on how grid connections, planning and network use can move from waiting times to delivery. To support electrification, the grid must become a clearer enabler of new production, storage and large electricity users.
The discussion will address planning horizons, transparency, investment incentives and how grid operators, authorities and project owners can work together to unlock capacity where it creates the greatest system value.
Which changes would shorten the time from connection request to delivery the most? How can transparency, shared planning, flexibility and storage help make better use of existing and future grid capacity?

A changing electricity system requires new tools to balance variable production, new demand and system stability. This session looks at the markets, standards and technologies needed for flexibility, batteries and ancillary services, while also addressing power quality, voltage stability and cost efficiency. It will also explore how hybrid solutions can reduce peak demand and make better use of grid capacity.
Which flexibility resources can realistically scale fastest, and what market rules or standards need to change for them to participate? How can Sweden ensure power quality and system stability as both production and demand become more dynamic?
Language: Swedish
The energy transition is also a question of security and resilience. This session explores how Sweden can reduce fossil dependence, strengthen preparedness and build a more robust electricity system at the same time.
The discussion will address critical vulnerabilities, supply chains, cyber risks, system balance and how renewable electricity, storage and flexibility can reinforce energy security without slowing the transition.
Which vulnerabilities are most critical in a more electrified Sweden? How can renewable electricity, storage and flexibility strengthen preparedness and reduce fossil dependence before 2030?
Language: Swedish
Direct electrification is often the fastest way to reduce fossil use, but it requires clear priorities, infrastructure and market conditions. This session focuses on where in society electrification can deliver the greatest emissions reductions before 2030, which bottlenecks risk slowing progress and how hydrogen and electrofuels should be used as complements where direct electrification is not the best option.
Which sectors can cut fossil emissions fastest through direct electrification? What infrastructure, markets and policy decisions are needed to avoid new bottlenecks or lock-in to slower and more expensive alternatives?

Local acceptance is essential if Sweden is to build the renewable electricity, storage and grid infrastructure needed for electrification. This session explores what creates lasting trust at local level, from tangible benefits and participation to transparency, nature considerations and financial value sharing. It will also look at what the industry can do differently in consultation and communication, drawing on lessons from wind power while also considering solar power and storage.
What factors matter most for local trust, and how do they differ between wind power, solar power, storage and grids? How can local benefit be defined and delivered in ways that strengthen legitimacy rather than create new conflicts?
Language: Swedish
False narratives and misinformation about renewable energy undermine public confidence in the energy transition, which in turn affects the necessary decisions and investment conditions for electrification. This session focuses on how misinformation, whether deliberate or unintentional, can shape the debate and weaken critical energy infrastructure’s resilience.
The discussion explores how public authorities, civil society and the energy sector can strengthen evidence-based decision-making, transparency and preparedness.
How can society distinguish legitimate criticism from coordinated disinformation campaigns? What approaches can strengthen resilience, evidence-based communication and the protection of critical energy infrastructure?
Language: Swedish and English
The summit closes with a short reflection on the key insights from the day and what they mean for the decisions, partnerships and actions needed ahead. The session brings together the main themes of the programme and looks at how renewable electricity can move from discussion to delivery.
