Accelerating the Energy Transition
This year’s Green Power Sweden Summit explores how to accelerate the energy transition in Sweden and Europe – from strategy to implementation. Three thematic blocks highlight energy security, competitiveness, the electricity market and permitting, with special focus on the EU’s increased ambition.
The summit is held under the Green Power Sweden name for the first time, bringing together actors across the energy system. The main language is Swedish, with simultaneous interpretation into English.
The conference kicks off as participants are welcomed to the exhibition hall featuring 47 exhibitors from across the energy sector.
Green Power Sweden Summit 2025 is officially opened with welcome remarks and an introduction to this year’s programme.
What direction is the energy system taking – and what does this mean for our industry, our competitiveness and our society? This session offers a glimpse into the future, where geopolitics, climate and innovation are intertwined with the question of how we build a robust and fossil-free energy system. The session also highlights the importance of sector coupling, social engagement and political will – crucial factors for the success of the energy transition.

Sweden’s energy transition is accelerating, but as solar and wind generation surge, so do imbalance costs and revenue volatility. In this Power Talk, Qurrent presents real hybrid-site simulations from the Swedish power market, showing how intelligent orchestration between Solar, Wind and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) can turn imbalance risk into opportunity.

As the exhibition winds down, the evening continues with our much-anticipated Networking Dinner – an opportunity to connect, unwind and enjoy great food in good company. The conference opens with a conversation that frames the day’s discussions and sets the tone for Sweden’s most important meeting place on the energy transition. Together with moderator Niclas Sigholm, Daniel Badman, CEO of Green Power Sweden, will introduce this year’s programme – spanning from strategy to practical implementation.
They will highlight the three thematic blocks, focusing on energy security, competitiveness, market development, and permitting, as well as the EU’s growing ambition and its impact on Sweden. The session also reflects the new chapter for the conference under the Green Power Sweden name, bringing together actors across the energy system to explore synergies, solutions, and pathways forward.
This session explores how geopolitical factors and superpowers such as China, Russia and the US are influencing Europe’s energy transition. We highlight how international relations are shaping the development of wind and solar energy, the EU’s climate targets, and the strategic choices required for a sustainable energy supply.
How can Europe best position itself to meet global challenges while achieving its climate targets?
This session provides a Nordic perspective on how energy security and competitiveness interact. Speakers from Finland and Denmark share insights on capacity, grid integration, and EU-level policy considerations, highlighting both opportunities and challenges in reconciling these two priorities. The discussion sets the stage for the following sessions, which will explore energy security and competitiveness in greater depth.
Sweden’s energy system is currently half dependent on imports and a quarter fossil based. To reduce vulnerability and achieve climate goals, rapid expansion of renewable electricity and strengthened transmission capacity are required – both within the country and to our neighbouring countries. This session highlights how Sweden and Europe can build a robust and resilient energy system, in which wind and solar power play a central role.
How can Sweden contribute to Europe’s energy security through increased fossil-free production and smarter grid solutions?

The Nordic region has introduced 15-minute balancing, creating more frequent activations, higher volatility, and new revenue opportunities. In this session, Volue Energy Market Services will present the new mFRR balancing model for intraday and day-ahead markets, highlighting how energy producers and industry with available flexibility can increase revenue and manage operational complexity.

Meet Volue AS: in booth 48
As one of Sweden’s most influential political voices, former Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson shares her perspectives on how political choices shape Sweden’s green transition. What impact do these decisions have on the country’s path toward a sustainable energy future? In this keynote, she reflects on the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead for the energy sector and society at large.
The issue of Sweden’s electrification is closely linked to the industry’s need for transition. Investing in new production and distribution will enable sustainable business models for the future. In this session, we take the pulse of the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise’s view of energy policy and the status of the transition.
For Sweden and Europe to reap the full benefits of the energy transition, competitiveness must be at the heart of decisions on investment, technology and grid expansion. This session highlights how industry and the market can be strengthened in a fossil-free and import-independent energy system, with a focus on the European perspective.
How can strategic decisions and collaboration at national and European level ensure competitiveness in the energy transition?

In cold climate regions, icing on wind turbine blades is the second-largest source of production losses after wake effects, posing significant operational and financial challenges. In this session, Kjeller Vindteknikk will present IceLossForecast, a strategic forecasting tool that quantifies icing losses, reduces imbalance costs, and supports smarter operational and trading decisions. Real-world results demonstrate measurable financial value and enhanced resilience for wind farm operators, BRPs, and TSOs.

Meet Norconsult/Kjeller Vindteknikk: in booth 8
Grensle’s business idea is to build district heating-connected energy storage facilities made of stone materials. The storage facilities are charged with surplus electricity from wind, solar and hydropower – and save energy from summer to winter. This solution enables power plant owners to maximize renewable production year-round, generate revenue from otherwise wasted energy, and secure investments at just a fraction of the cost of electric batteries.

Swedbank provides a macroeconomic outlook with a focus on Sweden and the key building blocks shaping the playing field for 2026. From the new global order and the effects of tariffs to household consumption and a strengthening labour market, the economic framework for investments and the transition is set. With a clear link to energy and ESG issues, the discussion explores how capital flows are directed, how attractive Sweden is as an investment destination compared to others, and the role of energy demand and industrial transformation in this broader context.

Industrial and corporate electricity demand is driving the need for new power procurement solutions. This session explores how long-term agreements, including PPAs, can help meet climate goals, secure electricity prices, and strengthen competitiveness. What are industries’ priorities when purchasing electricity, and what is needed to make more long-term agreements a reality?
What direction are PPAs, hybrid solutions and new market models heading in? Investors, aggregators and storage operators share their perspectives on how risks can be managed and how new solutions can contribute to profitable investments and a more flexible electricity system.
Is the market ready to scale up new business models to meet the electricity system of the future?
Large energy buyers, such as the steel industry and server halls, have clear needs for electricity contracts, security of supply and long-term price stability. In this session, they share their perspectives on how they plan and secure the electricity supply for their operations.
What needs must large energy buyers have met in order to secure their electricity supply?
Project developers today face an increasingly complex electricity market with growing demands for flexibility, regulation, and profitability. This session explores how to navigate this new reality and identify profitable investments in renewable energy – both onshore, offshore and in hybrid solutions that combine wind, solar and energy storage. We discuss how these projects can contribute to a more flexible electricity system, manage intermittency, and optimise resource utilisation.

Learn about social misperceptions regarding electricity production and energy policy – including the municipal wind power veto – both on the national Swedish level and in a dozen municipalities where Peerpointing and its project partners from across the renewable industry commissioned best-practice polls before the summer. In a forward-looking discussion, Jeanette, Tim and the audience will begin a conversation about how the industry needs to adapt its outreach and public consultation work and what support is needed.
Most of this Power Talk will be held in Swedish. An English summary will be published afterwards on Renewable Sweden’s website.

As State Secretary to Minister for Energy, Business and Industry Ebba Busch, Maja Lundbäck provides an insider perspective on Sweden’s energy policy. In this keynote address, she outlines the government’s priorities for the final year of the parliamentary term and discusses the opportunities and challenges in achieving a fossil-free, competitive, and secure energy future.
The permitting process for wind power, solar parks and energy storage is facing major changes. Proposals from the Environmental Permitting Inquiry, the EU Renewable Energy Directive and other initiatives will affect regulations and the industry’s ability to plan and implement projects. This session discusses how the changes may affect the practical implementation of projects and what consequences this will have for the industry, with a focus on implementation, time frames and preparations for a new permitting process.
Where wind power, solar parks and energy storage systems are built is crucial to achieving climate goals and creating a sustainable energy supply. This session focuses on the role of energy planning at national, regional, and municipal level, and how authorities, developers and other actors can work together to enable the expansion of wind, solar and storage. We discuss how technological expansion can be balanced with land use, environmental considerations and social acceptance.
How can municipalities and regions plan for the expansion of wind, solar and storage? How can authorities and other actors support effective and sustainable planning processes?
The expansion of renewable energy on forest land affects land use and can compete with other societal interests. This session highlights the key challenges and opportunities when energy, forestry and other land interests are to coexist. We discuss the trade-offs between different interests and how planning, strategy and local support can contribute to sustainable development and local support.
What methods and strategies can facilitate the expansion of large-scale renewable energy in forest and rural areas without compromising other important societal interests?
Swedish electricity grids are under increasing pressure as both demand and renewable production grow rapidly. Power shortages and bottlenecks risk slowing down both industrial expansion and electrification in general. This session explores the solutions needed to free up power – from smarter use and increased flexibility to technical innovations and investments in grid capacity.
What reforms and decisions are needed to ensure that the electricity grids can meet future needs, and how can stakeholders work together to strengthen the stability and robustness of the system?
The government’s incentive proposals for renewable energy could have a major impact on local acceptance and permit processes. But to what extent do municipal decisions reflect actual public opinion? This session highlights how clear incentives and models for economic participation can strengthen trust, create jobs and provide economic benefits for local communities. We will also discuss how developers can contribute through early and transparent dialogue, and what lessons from the expansion of wind power can facilitate the development of solar power.
How can incentives and economic participation influence local community acceptance and municipal decisions? How can developers and politicians work together to create a permitting process that is both inclusive and confidence-building?
A brief closing session that summarizes key insights from the day and highlights the main lessons and next steps for Sweden’s energy transition.
