Accelerating the Energy Transition

Seminar Programme

This year’s Green Power Sweden Summit explores how to accelerate the energy transition in Sweden and Europe – from strategy to implementation. Three thematic blocks highlight energy security, competitiveness, the electricity market and permitting, with special focus on the EU’s increased ambition.

The summit is held under the Green Power Sweden name for the first time, bringing together actors across the energy system. The main language is Swedish, with simultaneous interpretation into English.

Day 1

The conference kicks off as participants are welcomed to the exhibition hall featuring 47 exhibitors from across the energy sector.

Sweden’s energy system is currently half dependent on imports and a quarter fossil based. To reduce vulnerability and achieve climate goals, rapid expansion of renewable electricity and strengthened transmission capacity are required – both within the country and to our neighbouring countries. This session highlights how Sweden and Europe can build a robust and resilient energy system, in which wind and solar power play a central role.

How can Sweden contribute to Europe’s energy security through increased fossil-free production and smarter grid solutions?

Grensle’s business idea is to build district heating-connected energy storage facilities made of stone materials. The storage facilities are charged with surplus electricity from wind, solar and hydropower – and save energy from summer to winter. This solution enables power plant owners to maximize renewable production year-round, generate revenue from otherwise wasted energy, and secure investments at just a fraction of the cost of electric batteries.

The government’s incentive proposals for renewable energy could have a major impact on local acceptance and permit processes. But to what extent do municipal decisions reflect actual public opinion? This session highlights how clear incentives and models for economic participation can strengthen trust, create jobs and provide economic benefits for local communities. We will also discuss how developers can contribute through early and transparent dialogue, and what lessons from the expansion of wind power can facilitate the development of solar power.

How can incentives and economic participation influence local community acceptance and municipal decisions? How can developers and politicians work together to create a permitting process that is both inclusive and confidence-building?
